Neurophysiology

In mammals, brain plans and executes appropriate behaviour based on external inputs, memory and internal states. This process is implemented by parallel computation in neural networks located within various brain regions. However, their mechanisms are still largely unclear. We are especially interested in the mechanism of sensorimotor information processing in the brain. To address this, we use two-photon imaging and electrophysiological recordings in the cerebellum and neocortex of behaving animals. We hope to uncover the encoding of sensorimotor information in these brain structures at single neuron and single synapse resolution. We also develop novel imaging and recording techniques which allow us to tackle fundamental issues described above. We believe that development of new techniques such as highly sensitive molecular probes and multimodal imaging is critical to analyse the function of complex brain systems.
