Surgery 1 (Digestive Surgery / Breast and Endocrine Surgery)

In our department, basic principle is to educate the surgeon scientist combining with humanity and science. Based on this principle, a major goal of the program is to train physicians who have cultivated humanity by experiencing major and frequent diseases of digestive organs as well as mammary endocrine diseases, and have research minds which can return the findings learned from the clinical cases to medical treatments. There are over 500 cases of surgery per year, most of which are malignant tumors. Many invasive surgeries including pancreaticoduodenectomy, major hepatectomy, right thoracotomy thoracic esophagectomy (including 3-region lymph node dissection), and total pelvic exenteration are performed. On the other hand, laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and esophageal cancer are also actively introduced. In addition, reduction surgery such as sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer are also introduced. Thus, it is possible to choose an appropriate surgical operation formula according to the degree of cancer progression. Furthermore, preoperative chemo-radiation therapy for rectal cancer, preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy for esophageal cancer, and TACE for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma are undertaken to improve the outcome of surgical treatment as comprehensive cancer treatments
