Our lab has two main research topics; 1. Cell biology of cilia and flagella, 2. Application of mass spectrometry and machine learning to medical diagnosis. 1. We focus on the structure and functions of primary cilia, which plays various important roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis, development and morphogenesis. Therefore, dysfunction of cilia leads to pleiotropic maladies called ciliopathy that affects multiple organs. In order to clarify the mechanism of cilia function in various organs, we address several important questions in basic cell biology. 2. Concerning the mass spectrometry and machine learning, we developed a new rapid cancer diagnosis machine collaborated with other institutions and entrepreneur. Taking the advantage of artificial intelligence and big data, this project is not only confined to the diagnosis of malignancies, but will pave a new way into medical screening, diagnosis, and analysis of pathogenesis in new era.
